How the day's five are chosen
Five stories are chosen each day. They must matter to the lives of new Swedes, not merely be the loudest headline. We would rather run a story that changes someone's day than one that only upsets people, and we avoid running the same event five times from five angles.
How we write
Each story carries a short summary of what happened, followed by a critical analysis: what this means, for whom, and what the usual reporting leaves out. We name racism when we see it, whether it comes from the street, the newsroom or parliament. We write about people as people, not as categories, and we explain the terms a new Swede is meeting for the first time.
Sources and credit
Every story names the newsroom that reported it first and links to the original. We take the headline, the facts and a short summary – never the whole article. A claim carried by a single source is marked as unconfirmed until a second, independent source stands it up.
Corrections
We will get things wrong. When we do we correct it in the open, saying what was wrong and not only what is right. A paper that names racism will be attacked on its accuracy first, which makes the correction our strongest defence.
What we do not do
Nothing is published automatically. Everything written by machine is saved as a draft and waits for a person. We do not publish the names or pictures of private individuals who have been the victims of crime without their consent. We do not take payment for editorial content.
