What happened

The GS union threatens to go on strike at the printing house Ink N Art in Göteborg. According to the union, the reason is that the company has stalled negotiations. If the parties do not reach an agreement, it will be the first time ever that the GS union resorts to a strike.

Our analysis

The labor market is based on a simple principle: work performed should provide secure conditions and fair wages. When employers drag their feet, it is always the employees in production who pay the price in the form of uncertainty.

Many new Swedes work in industry and graphic production. For workers who lack strong networks, union agreements are the only real protection against arbitrariness and dumped working conditions.

The Swedish model is often praised in solemn speeches by old Swedes in management positions. But the model's true value is not determined in celebratory speeches, but when workers put their foot down against companies that refuse to sign up for order and decency.

Explained

A strike means that employees walk off the job to put pressure on an employer during a contractual dispute.
