WHAT HAS HAPPENED:Migrationsverket has adopted a new logo featuring a heraldic coat of arms containing a crown and shield. The new symbol applies from 1 September and is meant to show that the agency is part of the state. The switch is taking place gradually on the website, in digital services, as well as on letters and decisions. According to the agency, the change also marks a new phase linked to the EU's new common migration and asylum rules. During a transition period, both the old and the new logo will be used in parallel.

OUR ANALYSIS:For many new Swedes, a letter from Migrationsverket is the most crucial notice in life. The agency justifies its new coat of arms by stating that the state should be more visible at a time when asylum rules are being tightened. But what someone waiting for a decision needs are fast and legally certain processes, not a royal crown on the envelope.
