What happened
Douglas Thor is leaving the post as chairman of Moderata ungdomsförbundet, Muf. He resigns after having led the youth wing for four years. In an interview with Dagens Nyheter, Thor says it is idiotic not to spend money on integration. He also stresses that in politics, one must accept mistakes and move on rather than dwelling on them.
Our analysis
Our analysis: When the leader of the governing party's own youth wing calls the failure to fund integration idiotic, he puts his finger on a policy that hits new Swedes directly. In the public debate, integration is often described as a burden rather than a necessary investment in the people who uphold the country. The question now is what mistakes the party is prepared to admit – and whether the government intends to listen to its own youth wing.
Explained
