Jimmie Åkesson has examined the election result and found the culprit. It wasn't his policies, his campaign, or four years of Tidö. It was "Islamist voters," mobilised by the Social Democrats and the Left Party.
This is a remarkable discovery. Apparently Sweden contains enough Islamists to swing a national election, and nobody noticed until the votes were counted. Säpo must be embarrassed. All those years of surveillance, and the Islamists turned out to be standing in an orderly queue outside a school gymnasium in Rosengård, holding ID and waiting their turn. Very radical. Very Swedish, actually.
Let's be honest about what the word means here. In the SD dictionary, "Islamist" is not a description of ideology. It's a description of anyone new Swedish who votes wrong. The Swedish-Somali nurse on the night shift? Islamist. The Swedish-Iraqi bus driver? Islamist. The Swedish-Kashmiri filmmaker? Almost certainly. The Swedish-Chilean pensioner who has been Catholic since 1948? Give it time, they'll find a way.
I came to this country in 1997 to work on a ship. In all these years nobody handed me a caliphate membership card. I did, however, get a union card, which to some people on the right is apparently worse.
Here is the part old Swedish politicians on the far right find confusing. If you spend two decades telling new Swedes that they are the problem, that their citizenship should be frozen, that their teenagers should be deported and their relatives priced out of work permits, they develop a strange habit: they vote for someone else. Political scientists call this "having a functioning brain."
When rural old Swedish men moved in large numbers to SD, nobody called it a demographic takeover. That was "the people speaking." When wealthy old Swedes in Djursholm vote Moderate, nobody writes in a British magazine about "Saddam Hussein numbers" in Danderyd. But when new Swedes vote in their own interest, suddenly democracy has been infiltrated.
So the rule is simple. Old Swedes voting for their interests: democracy. New Swedes voting for their interests: jihad with a ballot paper.
The funniest part is that the solution is sitting right in front of him. New Swedes are not born left-wing. Many are conservative, religious, entrepreneurial, obsessed with their children's grades, suspicious of high taxes. A smart right-wing party would see a gold mine. Instead SD looked at a million potential voters and said: let's call them terrorists and see how that goes.
It went like this. First-ever electoral decrease.
A party that loses and blames the voters doesn't have a problem with Islamists. It has a problem with democracy. In a democracy, Jimmie, the voters are allowed to dislike you back.
